Purpose of Recruitment??

To create a hiring register to fill position vacancies within the Merit System of Jefferson County.

Necessary Qualifications??

Experience in a supervisory role in which you performed tasks including reviewing subordinates? work, evaluating subordinates? performance, delegating tasks and administering discipline.
Experience planning and organizing sports leagues, youth leagues, athletic programs, and/or recreation activities.
Experience coaching and/or training individuals and/or groups.
Experience using various computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Internet Browsers, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor?s degree or higher in Recreation, Leisure Services, Sports Management, Fitness Management or a related field.

Examples of Duties??

Supervises, plans, schedules and organizes all Center events, activities and programs.
Interacting with the public and media outlets in order to answer questions and concerns, gather feedback, coordinate with vendors and advertise upcoming events.
Acts as class instructor and game official for various recreation center programs, activities and classes.
Performs administrative duties including completing paperwork and reports, conducting research, ordering supplies, and collecting monies and fees.
Manages the maintenance and inventory for the Center?s equipment.
Generates and explores ideas for programs and activities to be held by the center by conducting surveys and speaking with persons throughout the community, and researching on the Internet, in order to determine the type of classes and programs that would attract community members from varying age groups.
Plans, organizes and prepares schedules of activities and programs for each season such as sport leagues (e.g., softball, basketball, flag football, volleyball, golf, tennis), team activities, summer day camp, arts and crafts, dance etc, by looking at activities held during the previous year and including programs that are specific to a particular season (e.g.,softball and tennis in the summer,basketball in the fall etc).
Prepares schedules of activities, events, trips and employee work shifts in order to facilitate funding for activities, ensure adequate staffing for the center and use of resources.
Attends meetings held by various associations, schools, churches and other groups throughout the neighborhood as needed to obtain community members?ideas and opinions, encourage participation and collaboration, provide information about the center, handle conflicts and concerns, plan activities for the center and recruit volunteers.
Contacts and interacts with various businesses, organizations in the community, vendors, potential sponsors and community leaders in order to request donations of money and/or goods and services, support and funding for special events and projects (e.g., sporting leagues, banquets, trips, classes/programs etc).
Trains and coaches other recreation center employees to perform some of the duties of the Recreation Center Director (e.g., plans/executes programs and activities, instructs classes, directs new games and activities).
Contacts different departments and agencies in the community to request experts and certified persons to facilitate and teach classes/programs at the center.
Composes and prepares quarterly reports on programs held at the center (e.g., cost, attendance) in order to submit to the necessary personnel and keep him/her informed of activities at the center.
Monitors the center?s expenditures on various programs and activities by reviewing the ledger of expenses, balancing line items and planning events according to available funds in order to ensure that overspending does not occur.
Interacts with various Parks and Recreation maintenance staff to ensure that the center and grounds are cleaned in preparation for activities and functions that may be taking place.

Examination Process??

Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be invited to participate in the examination process. Details of the examination process will be communicated to qualified applicants at a later date.

Examination Results??

Applicants will be notified of their results by mail and/or email. Applicants? final scores will determine their position on the hiring register, and the position (or rank) may be subject to change in the event that new names are added to the register due to subsequent administrations of the examination. Once established, the hiring register may be used to meet personnel staffing needs in any jurisdiction served by the Personnel Board of Jefferson County.
